The Seattle Bamboo Festival took place at the Graham Visitor Center at the Washington Park Arboretum on June 1st, 2008. The final numbers look great. Historically the chapter collected money from the sale and then split the proceeds 60% to the grower and 40% to the Chapter. This past year the Board elected to update the chapter bylaws and not process the festival sales for tax reasons. We reduced the chapter split down to 30% for plants so that the grower could keep a little more to cover processing the plant sales themselves. Auction plants and the resulting proceeds were donated at 100% to the chapter. The grower mails in a donation check to the Chapter Treasurer, and then the Treasurer mails back a letter of receipt so the grower can list it as a charitable donation for tax purposes. The Pacific NW Chapter of the American Bamboo Society, is a non-profit IRC 501 (C)(3) corporation. Consult your tax adviser for advice before donating.
2007 GROSS = $6,644.00 as cash, checks and credit card transactions 2007 EXPENSES = $3,912.60 split paid out to growers and $571.60 for credit card processing fees 2007 NET = $2,159.80
